Greece Athena High School is a part of the Greece Central School District serving students in grades 9-12 in Rochester, New York. First built in 1969, Athena is the largest - both in size and population - of the four high schools. A notable recent addition to the school is its state-of-the-art performing arts center.

Greece Athena High School opened in 1969. Athena

is a student-centered secondary school in which the staff strives to maintain a focus on high academic achievement while creating a learning environment in which all students feel valued. Athena also offers Advanced Placement courses, several Dual Credit courses through which students can earn high school and Monroe Community College (MCC) or Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) credit simultaneously, authentic science research and various career internship opportunities. Athena has been awarded the PLTW certificate and has multiple nationally recognized music ensembles. Athena provides a wide variety of experiences to its 1,316 students. More than 30 extracurricular activities are available to students, including Student Council, National Honor Society, Model UN, Mock Trial, an Association of Marketing Students, MasterMinds, Math Team, Envirothon Team, Show Choir, Trojan Tribune, and a variety of academic clubs. Students are encouraged to participate in the creation of new clubs. Some of Athena’s newest organizations — Principal’s Forum, Safe School Ambassadors, Odyssey of the Mind, and Martial Arts — were a direct result of student interest.[1]

Music

In the 2010-2011 school year, the Athena music department was one of the first high schools across the nation to perform Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. They sold out five performances and added a sixth performance which also sold out. Chritine Daae was played by senior Lisa Muldowney. Raoul Le Vicomte de Changne was played by senior Erik Olsen. The Phantom was played by junior Michael Leadbetter. Carlotta was played by junior Emily Beseau. Piangi was played by senior Alex Pasquarella. Meg Giry was played by senior Lexi Gleichauf. Madame Giry was played by senior Jess Drew.
